Louise Blackburn, MSW, RSW

Clinical Social Worker

Louise is a registered clinical social worker and registered psychotherapist with over 14 years of experience providing therapeutic services in a variety of treatment settings.

She is a highly trained and skilled clinician who is passionate about her work. She completed her studies at Carleton University and obtained her Bachelor of Social Work with High Honours in 2007, followed by her Master of Social Work in 2009.

 

Louise is a member of several professional associations including the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (2004,) the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (2017,) and the EMDR International Association and EMDR Canada (2015.) She has participated as a member of a trauma and dissociation working group since 2017 providing clinical support to her colleagues to work with complex treatment needs. Louise creates a collaborative, safe and understanding environment where clients can work through challenges in confidence. Her warm and compassionate style helps clients build skills to support their personal growth and improve their well-being.

  
Louise started her career working in various community health and victim services agencies. She has centred her practice on the impact of traumatic events, including acute episodes in response to trauma, domestic violence and other forms of abuse, post traumatic stress disorder, dissociative disorders and operational stress injuries. She has been providing therapy to military members since 2011 and currently works at the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre on the Operational Trauma and Stress Support Centre’s multidisciplinary team. In addition, Louise is skilled in working with depression and anxiety related conditions, including panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, among others. She supports clients through many difficult life transitions, including grief and loss. She teaches her clients how to recognize negative coping patterns and teaches skillful alternatives.

 
Louise has been trained in several trauma specific treatments including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy. She completed EMDR training in 2014 and met the qualifications to become a certified EMDR therapist in 2015, which she maintains by committing to regular advanced EMDR training. Louise is also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and more recently, hypnosis.

  
Louise maintains a part time private practice in Orleans, ON and is currently accepting new referrals.
